Considerations for Photographing Events

Site Review for Lighting & Scene

A number of components help comprise the successful photography of an event. Site review of the events venue before the event is one of these elements. By reviewing the site at the same time of day as the upcoming event with the venue director will help in shot planning. Why? For a number of reasons, two of which are lighting and scene selections. San Diego event photography takes these elements into consideration.

Room lighting can change the quality and impact of a shot, so it is important for the photographer to survey the location under the same conditions of the shoot.Good photography at an event will always require selecting the best settings on the camera and lighting choices. The layout of the event and how to adjust shading are items that should be discussed with the event planner. Acknowledging that these options are imporant will help enhance photo quality and quantity. Additional processing of photographs is often still made by in event photography.

Review the venue will help detect promising scene settings and opportunities. The photographer should keep an eye out for good shot opportunities in peripheral areas to the event, such as at tables, or other gathering places.. The aforementioned lighting concerns are of course interrelated and the event photographer should recognize these opportunities. Observing lighting characteristics and the surroundings before and event will help determine good opportunites for candid shots that can take advantage of layout, architecture, and lighting.

Many events are moments in time that are fast-paced and need quick shooting. The photographer needs to be prepared to make sure those precious memories are not only captured, but captured well, and this is one reason why I like to review the site before an event and why the effort is considered part of any booking
