My teacher assigned a project today that involves my group and I creating a play. My group consists of myself Gary, Samantha, and Linda. We decided to create a Greek play because Linda’s dad has some Greek costumes that he used for a costume party a few years ago. We thought we would have a problem with one of the costumes since it was stained, but we decided to pass it off as a blood stain. This blood stain will fit perfectly into our play because we are going to pretend to be Greek soldiers.
The play only needs to be five minutes long, but that is still a lot of lines to memorize. We figure that if we make the play center around a fight scene then we will not have to talk as much because we can spend some time sparring with our weapons.
Linda’s dad has given us permission to use his set of four Greek armors that consist of breast plates and Greek helmets. He has some weapons to go along with them, but will not let us use them. Linda’s dad does not think the school will let us into the building with sharp dangerous looking weapons. The use of old paper towel rolls will be employed in an effort to make safe swords to spar with. The paper towels rolls will need to be painted so that they look a little more authentic. I don’t think the teacher will like it if we just jab at each other with paper towel rolls.
We’re going to make betrayal the theme of our play. We will have one of the soldiers abandon the battle and three of his buddies will go after him. They will get into an argument and then will begin to do battle. While the battle rages on the betrayer will lose his Greek helmet to a head blow.
Once the helmet falls off they will get into a dialog. They will beg him to return to the army so that they will not have to kill him. The betrayer will not do this due to his moral principles. The play will end as a tragedy because the main character will be killed by his three comrades. We all agree that a tragedy will be the best kind of play because it will add a lot of intense emotion to the story line. Linda thinks that if we practice we can get the best grade in the class.
