Ten years ago you would stand in front of a camera until the photographer could fit everyone into his/her view and then hold your smile for as long as necessary until the flash went off. Nowadays it sounds a little bit different as it goes ‘Ok, hold that pose! Ah perfect, what do you think? Do you want me to delete this and get another one?’. Why the change in methods for taking photographs you ask?. A handy invention called digital cameras.
Whether you are a professional photographer or someone who just likes taking random pictures, digital cameras are the most useful tools around. All that is required to use a digital camera is a memory card and a cable to upload it onto a computer, and a photographer is born. You can take more than five hundred pictures, depending on the available memory on the card, which means even if you make a mistake, you could probably take three versions of the same picture, making errors pretty much irrelevant. Today someone pulling a digital camera out of their bag is not even given a second look, whether it is in the local mall, at a friend’s wedding or around colleges.
An industry that has been greatly affected by the invention of digital cameras is that of professional photographer’s. In the early days of photography, a professional would be hired for any major event – a wedding, christening, engagement, or even a party. But now because almost everyone owns a digital camera, and because it is so easy to use, many people ask friends and family to step into the shoes of a photographer for the day. This has its benefits because for one, it is much cheaper, and also people do not feel awkward smiling into a camera held by someone they know, unlike in the case of a professional they may never have met before. All photographs taken in a digital camera can be stored in personal computers, and so even businesses which print out photographs have been affected by digital cameras. Photographs from a digital camera can be directly stored in the computer, and unless proper photographs are needed they can be printed directly from the computer itself, so the need to visit a shop for printing out photographs is pretty rare.
Newer and more modern versions of digital cameras come with additional features to them. Many can be used as video cameras, and some have the option of adding things like backgrounds or frames to them on the camera itself. These little things add to the variety of things that can be done on digital cameras. All in all, digital cameras are the way of the future, so go ahead…experiment with one!
