How to Start A Photography Portfolio

Do you have a bundle of good pictures but don’t know where to start a photography portfolio?  Don't actually have an thought of what you should accept and how grand it should be? You've viewed your friends, colleges and pupils with photography portfolio’s with covers with all kinds of materials from stainless steel to plastic, and leather? They may have an appealing and fancy covers that are commonly very expensive but not so practical for a beginner like you. No worries. Never ever judge a book by its cover? Well it’s true; a standard black plastic cover works fine for exhibiting your photography portfolio. It's not what's on the outside but what's on the inside that counts, right?

You’re in all likelihood best bet is to stay with a plain black plastic cover and form on perfecting your photos inside. There is no need to outside decoration on the portfolio, it's not christmas and stickers are a big no-no. This makes you look unporfessional. This not your family photo album, right? This is supposed to be the best representation of your most treasured photography work.

As for the sizing, it really counts on what size the bulk of your photos are. I'd go with a overall maxium of 8X10. Your photographs are not this big so smaller sizes work well too. But remember that you need to make sure that the theme of your photos is representive of your work or you might come in with an oversize portfolio for photos that look 4×6.

Starting, you need to be careful to organize and look over your digital photos. Don't just put anything that you think might work into your photography portfolio. Try to organize them by theme since it will give the reviewer a sense that you can work with different theme’s have an overall idea of how to make many photo’s pop from one assignment

How To Build A LandScape Portfolio

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

We have all read the web sites that tell us to use certain techniques to improve our landscape photography portfolio and seascape photography talents, or to post process our photos in a special way and nearly all these proposals are intensely valid ones but once you understand the basics there is one very quick and simple way to enhance your photography portfolio and that is to head outside and just start taking photos to begin.

Sounds too simple? Well it is true, there is nothing like practise and plenty of it to quickly boost and enhance your skills. The other concept behind this idea is that the more you are out shooting the larger chance you have of capturing that ‘magic’ light that no-one else has managed to capture before. We’ve all heard the term that practise makes perfect and whilst I am not making a claim to be perfect I’ve certainly revealed that the more I’m outside shooting the more I am brooding about shooting and the better I get.

When I first started out I couldn’t understand why I was not capturing any decent landscape pictures in six months I’d managed to capture perhaps three sellable photos. Ultimately it dawned on me after speaking to some pros that I just wasn’t getting out there enough firstly to boost my talents and secondly to boost my probabilities at capturing a great photo.

I quickly learnt that I had to be more obsessive about there photography portfolio getting out there so I went from taking photographs once each 2 - 3 weeks to living and breathing landscape photography and spending up to 10hrs a week taking footage. An extraordinary thing occurred my photography improved out of site and my portfolio expanded extremely quickly to the point I had a collection of photographs that I was highly proud of.
